A virtuoso performance in the Great Hall
(…) Friday evening the 7 February we had the occasion to listen to two prominent artists, the violinist Márta Ábrahám, who lives in Belgium, and Ildikó Cs.Nagy, a piano teacher in Vác. This night, to our greatest joy, they gave a joint performance. One can only use superlatives when commenting upon this concert. The violin performance was outstandingly virtuosic and stylish, and the piano accompanied it with refined elegance.
The programme comprised some violin compositions of XIX and XX century authors. The artists started with The First Sun from the belgian composer, Boudewijn Buckinx and followed with the Five Dances by Jean Sibelius. The late-romantic piece of the great Finnish composer displays an atmosphere typical of the northern composers. The third piece then heated up the mood of the audience, the composer, Sándor Balassa even went up stage and congratulated the artist for the presentation of his ’János napi muzsika’, written for solo violin. The last two pieces of the concert were the compositions of two representatives of the XX century music composition, the Hungarian György Kurtág and the belgian Eugene Ysaye. The artists performed these very difficult pieces with sensational techique. The audiance awarded the superb achievement with stormy applause. Many encores followed from which the ’Csárda jelenetek’ by Jenő Hubay was the most outstanding. The Hungarian folk spirit of the piece made it a worthy finale for the successful evening.
